01 / THE PROBLEM
Problem & objectives
Give a personal music collection a focused player without requiring a streaming account or uploading the library.
A native Android music player for local tracks, playlists, synced lyrics, and personal listening. A separate browser demo lets visitors try local audio playback.
02 / THE SYSTEM
Architecture & technology
Jetpack Compose renders the Android interface, Media3 handles playback, Room stores the library, and DataStore saves preferences. A separate Next.js website offers a browser demo using local audio and HTML audio playback.
- Local music library
- Media3 playback & Room
- Playlists & synced lyrics
03 / THE BUILD
Implementation & key features
- Local library, playlists, favorites, and an editable queue
- Synced lyrics, themes, sleep timer, and crossfade
- Android widgets and portable library backups
- Independent browser demo for local audio and lyrics
04 / THE BOUNDARIES
Security & reliability
Design notes and review considerations documented alongside this project:
- Local playback needs no account or developer backend
- Online lyrics and downloads require an internet connection
- Native source and releases require authorized GitHub access
05 / THE DECISIONS
Challenges & trade-offs
Saved music and lyrics work offline, while online lookup and downloads depend on external services. The browser demo has session-only audio and does not include native download, widget, or Android Auto features.
06 / THE RESULT
Outcome & engineering takeaways
An Android music player with local listening tools, plus a product website and an independent browser demo. Source and native downloads remain private.
The engineering takeaway is to make the system’s capabilities and limits explicit. The repository documents the implementation and its current scope.
